Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a gun violence incident that broke out Saturday night April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento while officers were clearing a large unsanctioned party of several hundred people.
How It Started
Deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 Saturday evening after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. After that, another report was received concerning a possible fight unfolding inside the park.
An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, deputies found that hundreds of people had come together at the location without permission.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Responding units worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering those gathered to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 gunshots cut through the air. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies at once began finding those who had been shot.
Four Victims Hospitalized
By the time the scene was secured, four people were located with gunshot injuries. The victims — consisting of one woman and three men all believed to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical teams indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one suffered minor injuries. Thankfully, all four victims survived check here and were stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and aided in treating shooting victims on location.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the incident was believed to have occurred adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators discovered additional shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Round impacts were noted in the wrought iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries showed that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. CSI investigators and detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Details gathered via scanner audio confirmed that a vehicle identified as a Kia was pulled over in Solano County California. Four people were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to bring the suspects back for further questioning. Video reviewed at the scene revealed that there were two gunmen.
